Trading Sideways on Oct 20th

October 21st, 2008 · No Comments · General

As I posted yesterday, I was watching following stocks. ABK, DAL, NWA, FCF, FULT.

First, ABK. As I was expecting, ABK was moving up on a good volume in pre-market. It hit 4.07$ and went down. I decided to get out of ABK knowing that it has tendency to drop in first hours of trading. I put a limit order of 3.99$ and it got filled! Total Profit: 22$ including commissions. :) What’s more, ABK did actually tank in first two hours. It never recovered fully and closed at 3.40 down by 3% where as Dow was up by more than 4.5%. Looks like ABK has no relationship with Dow Jones. My Co-relation Calculator confirms that. As you can see below, there is 50% chance that ABK will follow DJI on a green day and 65% chance that it will follow DJI on a red day. This is good, it eliminates one variable to monitor. BTW, ABK follows XLF much more closely for Red movement. If XLF is red, there is 75% chance that ABK will go red.

Remaining 4, DAL, NWA, FCF, FULT, all dropped little in the morning and caught up later and ended Green! I was watching DAL in particular. For last 6 days, DAL has tendency to gap down in morning, move up, drop a little and finally close green. Because I had seen this behavior of DAL to drop and catch up, I decided to wait for it before I entered the trade. And because it followed the exact same pattern, I didn’t enter the trade. Also, to short DAL, I have to make support request with TOS. And somehow I wasn’t feeling comfortable to wait for someone at TOS to help me short while price could be moving.

But the good news is that volume has fallen again. I am going to keep watching DAL.

BTW, have a look at NWA chart. It is like a twin brother of DAL chart. In fact, during the day when I typed in NWA symbol, I thought that the chart wasn’t updated!
